In February of last year here at West Branch something new and exciting happened! We got a new football coach, Mr. Nines. Mr. Nines also takes the role of the new calculus and woodshop teacher as well.
Mr. Nines wanted to become the new football coach for our West Branch team because he thought that he could help the school and the community. He says that West Branch is an amazing place and he wanted to be a part of it. Mr. Nines got into coaching after playing college football. He got a job teaching and coaching varsity. Coaching was something that he wanted to do and is partly the reason why he became a teacher too.
Now if you ask me his opinion of a good coach is surely incredible! He says “A good coach goes beyond the x’s and o’s to help the players become adults. A good coach is someone a player would feel comfortable asking for help or guidance throughout life. A good coach becomes family to the players.” This shows how much of a good coach Mr. Nines will be for West Branch! Mr. Nines believes that the team and their coach are family, not just friends but family. We at West Branch believe that he can be that coach that a player on the team will go to for guidance and help.
West Branch isn’t the only school Mr. Nines had coached at. He was the head coach at Leonardtown High School in Maryland. He also was the head coach at Central Mountain High School. His technique for coaching is “work hard, play hard”. Mr. Nines also was a mathematics teacher at those schools as well. Here at West Branch, we believe that Mr. Nines will be a great teacher and coach. And will treat the team as family and the team will treat him the same!
