As the winter approaches, the girls have a bright season in sight. The girl’s basketball team ended their season last year with a trip to the first round of districts against Bishop Mccort. The team then ended their season with an impressive winning record of 14-9. The girl’s most exciting game last year was against Juniata Valley. The ending score was an impressive 32-28 after losing to the Hornets 48-30 at the beginning of the season. Coach Justin Koleno exclaims, “We’ve been knocking on the door in a couple of games against those premiere teams in the Inter-County Conference (ICC). The whole team was pumped to finally get a win like that. That team made the state playoffs last year, and Juniata Valley has been good as long as I’ve been here. It speaks to our girls’ hard work that not only do we belong on the court with teams like that, but we can beat them.” West Branch lost three seniors which consisted of Hannah Betts, Kayleigh Smeal, and Emily Parks. The girls are hoping that they will still be a powerhouse without them this upcoming season. Last year’s starters included Emily Parks, Jenna Mertz, Katrina Cowder, Erin Godin, and Sarah Guglielmi. The team has a few players who came in hot off the bench last year and will play big minutes this season, including Lily Willams, Allison Shinglededcker, and Alexa Prestash. The team also has more seniors on the roster this year. Montana Willams and Maddie McDowell are a big part of the team with their constant support and energy. Some new members decided to join for a fun senior year. Greysyn Gable, Brooke Bainey, Tate Swatsworth, Kaylianne Zitsch, and Jamica Horsey are here to add their athleticism to the team. The underclassmen on the roster include Isabella Kerfoot and Macy Prinkey. The Lady Warriors are excited to have their season begin shortly. The girl’s competition will begin with a scrimmage against Bellefonte on November 28th, then following on November 29th they will scrimmage against Clearfield at home. The Lady Warriors’ first game will be at Harmony High School on December 8th at 7:30 pm.
