As modern technology continues to forge ahead in development, many people wonder if this is the safest objective to strive towards. AI stands for Artificial Intelligence and is processed by machines and computer systems. As it advances more every day and more people rely on it, this makes humans very vulnerable. I think that AI is becoming too powerful and could potentially become dangerous to the well-being of humans.

Artificial intelligence can be categorized into four types: reactive machines, limited memory machines, theory of mind, and self-aware machines. Reactive machines and limited memory are types of AI that currently exist, while theory of mind and self-awareness are types that are theoretical and could exist in the very near future. AI is developing the ability to learn on its own from past experiences. It learns from the data outcome and previously learned information, building experimental knowledge. If AI is learning on its own, you have to wonder how much control we humans really have over them. If they are learning from past events and knowledge they’ve acquired, why couldn’t they easily overthrow their motive and take control over worldwide systems?

I believe that if AI becomes too powerful, there will be a crash in systems worldwide. And since we humans rely on this type of technology so much, it will cause a widespread disaster. AI has already become powerful enough to provide language or image recognition at a human level. It has become very capable of completing tasks that humans could only dream of accomplishing. Not only is AI dangerous, but it also replaces jobs for people, leaving many without a source of income. Whether you choose to accept it or not, AI is taking over the world, maybe not violently yet, but everything is computer-operated, making it easy for AI to take over if it believes it is in its best interest to do so.

With this in mind, there are many people who believe AI should continue to advance for various reasons, such as healthcare or protection purposes. I understand that there is a need for AI in some cases and that it could greatly benefit the well-being of humans as well.

Taking everything into consideration, I believe that AI should not continue to advance due to the potential risk of harm to the welfare of humans.
