If you are a senior or an upcoming senior at West Branch, here are some scholarships you can look into and apply for if you are deciding t0 go to college.

Mrs. Porter suggests you start looking for scholarships right after you apply to the college or colleges of your choice in the fall (October and November) of your senior year. You should also ask the colleges you applied to or are interested in about the scholarships they have available for you to explore. Mrs. Porter also regularly posts good scholarship opportunities on the your senior class Google Classroom and shares them through ParentSquare, StudentSquare, and email. Make sure to check those platforms. If you plan on attending a local college, around April of your senior year, you can look at local scholarship options, some of which are exclusively for West Branch graduates. If you need assistance or are interested in those, talk to Mrs. Porter. If you don’t apply to a local college and plan to attend a college further away, you can explore other scholarship options on websites like Fastweb, Big Future, etc. However, keep in mind that you may be competing with thousands of other graduates from different schools if you choose this route. Lastly, if you have applied and plan to attend any of the Commonwealth universities such as Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield Colleges, you may be eligible for up to $28,000 ($7,000 per year) in renewable scholarships based on your GPA. This is an agreement between the universities and West Branch. If you are interested, Mrs. Porter has packets with more information about the agreement with the Commonwealth universities in her office.

Mrs. Porter said, “I always encourage students to find scholarships to help make the cost of college more affordable.” If you need assistance or have any questions, please go talk to Mrs. Porter as she has more information and can connect you with the college or colleges you are interested in.
