On Tuesday, February 13th, the girls’ basketball team played their last regular season game against Curwensville. The Lady Warriors won the game with a final score of 47-22. Jenna Mertz led the way with 20 points, and Sarah Guglielmi wasn’t far behind, putting up 15 points. This win improved their regular season record to 14-8 overall and 7-1 in the Moshannon Valley league, with their only loss being to Glendale early in the season. The team still finished first in the Moshannon Valley league despite the loss. On top of that, the girls also finished second in the ICC with a record of 9-3. The team’s highest win streak was 5 games in a row, which came at the end of the regular season. This momentum, without a doubt, will help them win their first couple of games in the postseason. Throughout the season, the Lady Warriors were led by Jenna Mertz who averaged almost 15 points a game, and Sarah Guglielmi who averaged around 8 points a game. As a team, the girls averaged around 40 points per game. Some big individual accomplishments came along later in the season as senior Jenna Mertz scored her 1,000th point and broke the all-time scoring record at West Branch. Looking back at the regular season, junior Sarah Guglielmi stated, “Considering how many girls we lost this year, we exceeded expectations. Overall, it was a very successful season.” The Lady Warriors play on Monday, February 19th in the first round of district playoffs against Moshannon Valley. The game will be held at West Branch and will start at seven o’clock. In preparation for the postseason, senior Jenna Mertz exclaimed, “I think we have a strong chance this year, more than in the past. I think we all have strict roles on the team that make us a threat to any opponent. There is not just one player, we can all provide in every aspect. I am super proud of the team and how far we have come together this season.”
