The Lady Warriors Collect Their 17th Straight Win

The Lady Warriors go 4-0 on the week for the second week in a row.

The West Branch Lady Warriors started the four-game week on Monday facing Mount Union at home, they won with a score of 9-1. During this game, Junior Makenna Moore struck out 14 batters and only allowed one hit which scored, and one walk over the 6 innings played. This was a big game for Makenna as she also pitched her 400th varsity career strikeout. The Lady Warrior’s defense was on fire with zero errors, and on the offensive side of things, Greysyn Gable led with 2 hits, one being a double. And Haley Woodling, Mallory Graham, Brooke Bainey, and Makenna Moore each had a single. Senior Carsyn Wesesky came to the circle to finish off the game for the Lady Warriors.

On Tuesday, The Lady Warriors were back at it again against Juniata Valley at home. Junior Makenna Moore was back in the circle for the Warriors and dealt out 15 more strikeouts and allowed no walks. Senior Greysyn Gable had two doubles with one RBI and Sophomore Haley Woodling had two hits, one being a double, and also batted in the other three runs helping the Lady Warriors beat the Hornets 4-0. Madison Butler and Makenna Moore also each had one hit.

On Wednesday, The Lady Warriors were home again against the Glendale Lady Vikings. Makenna Moore was once again in the circle for the Lady Warriors and struck out the first 10 Lady Vikings. Greysyn Gable once again led the Lady Warriors in hits with two doubles and two RBIs. Brooke Bainey also had two hits including one double. Makenna Moore, Carsyn Wesesky, Mallory Graham, and Layla Thompson each contributed with one double to help the Lady Warriors beat Glendale 4-1. Makenna Moore finished in the circle with 18 strikeouts, this being her single-game career-high.

For the final game of the week, The Lady Warriors were on the road at Moshannon Valley to take on the Lady Damsels. Senior Carsyn Wesesky was in the circle for the Warriors. At the top of the 1st inning, the Warriors had numerous hits and scored 6 runs. In the second inning, the Lady Warriors collected two more hits making the score 8-0. Between the 3rd and 4th inning, the Warriors scored three more times while the Lady Damsels were left scoreless. Due to rainy weather conditions, at the end of the 4th inning, the game was called and left unfinished with an 11-0 score, with the Lady Warriors winning. The next day Moshannan Valley conceded (forfeited). Making the Lady Warriors win 11-0 in 4 innings. Shortstop Haley Woodling commented, “Our team had a very busy week playing four days in a row. Towards the end of the week everyone was getting exhausted, but we all persevered. We faced many challenges with the weather from nearly 80 degrees Monday vs. Mt. Union, to a chilly 60 degrees in pouring rain vs. MoValley. I’m super proud of the team as we kept the win streak alive. We had some stellar plays and key hits in key moments.”

The Lady Warriors are now 17-1 on the season with 17 straight wins and were named ICC North Champions. On Monday, the 13th, the Lady Warriors host the Curvesville Lady Golden Tide for the final regular season game. On Tuesday the 14th, they will travel to Claysburg to play for the ICC Championship.
