About halfway through her junior year of volleyball, the West Branch Warriors, Kyla Kephart, hit a new milestone achieving 1,000 assists against Berlin Brothers Valley. With all of our great volleyball setters in the past, Kephart joins an amazing group of young women who have achieved 1,000 assists. Kephart was getting minutes as a freshman because the Warriors coach, Terry Trude, knew she was gifted with smooth sets. Senior middle hitter and teammate, Makiya Mack said, “Kyla is a very good setter and self-critiques herself a lot which is very helpful as a hitter.”
If one were to ask Kephart about her emotions when finally achieving this milestone she would say, “I hit my 1,000 assists against Berlin at Berlin. The experience was really bittersweet and my whole team brought out signs and we had a big group hug. Coach Trude told Berlin’s head coach and he got the microphone for Coach Trude to tell the crowd about my milestone. The team has been very supportive and we have had a positive growing mindset all season.”
After Kethart achieved her milestone, the Warriors fell to Berlin in a hard-fought battle. The scores of the sets were 25-22, 25-16, and 25-23. In addition, Kephart said, “We made a lot of errors and we were very overwhelmed. The environment was tough to play in and it showed us where we are as a team.”
The Warrior Volleyball team dominated against Curwinsville Tide on Thursday, September 26th, adding another win to their dominant season. The scores of each set were 25-6, 25-16, and 25-13. After the game, Kephart said, “We swept them and everything was on. We had great energy and played at our level the entire game.” The Warriors record is now 18-3-1.
Congratulations to Kephart for her amazing milestone and make sure to come cheer on our Lady Warrior Volleyball team as they attempt to make another historic run.
