On Monday, October 21st, the West Branch sophomores took a trip to the Clearfield County Career and Technology Center (CCCTC). This trip allowed West Branch students to start making decisions about their future, which could begin by enrolling at CCCTC. The CCCTC has West Branch students enrolled as well as several other schools in the area. While visiting there, they split into small groups and toured all of their programs. Students spent about ten to fifteen minutes in each program where they gained information and an overview of each program. Furthermore, the students got to try hands-on activities, which provided a practical and memorable way to explore each field.
The programs, including Masonry, Drafting, Health ,Occupations, Culinary Arts, Auto and Diesel Mechanics, Carpentry, Collision Repair, IT, Digital Media Arts, Electrical, and HVAC/R, gave students a chance to explore a wide range of career paths and skills they might not have considered before. When visiting the Health Occupations program, students got to practice locating pulse points and learned how to give the Heimlich maneuver to an adult and baby. After touring multiple programs, the sophomores were provided with a delicious lunch provided by the Culinary Arts program.
If you are interested in joining one of the programs CCCTC offers, remember that applications are due on November 7th. You should have received an application packet mailed to you by CCCTC last week or earlier this week. If you did not receive an application packet and are interested, please see Mrs. Porter for assistance.
Attending the CCCTC gives students a great opportunity to explore what they are passionate about in a hands-on environment, serving as a fantastic stepping stone for their future. Roughly half of West Branch graduates complete a program at CCCTC. Sophomore Lexie Mulhollem participated in the field trip and said, “My favorite program was definitely the health program. I’ve always wanted to be a nurse and I think it’s a really good opportunity for me.”
