On October 30th, the West Branch Lady Warriors faced off against the Bishop Guilfoyle Lady Marauders for the District 6 Championship in Altoona. Both teams had shown impressive skill throughout the season, securing their spots in this highly anticipated matchup. After dominant semi-final victories—West Branch with a 7-0 win over Bishop Carroll and Bishop Guilfoyle defeating Richland 7-2—the two top-seeded teams competed for the district title under the lights at Mansion Park.

The final game started slow for the first 30 minutes of play. With 10 minutes left in the first half, the Lady Marauders scored on a ball deflected by a Lady Warrior. The Lady Warriors had a defensive stand as time was winding down in the first half. A Lady Marauder shot, and the ball deflected off the crossbar, bounced down, and didn’t cross the goal line. Alexa Prestash jumped on the ball before it could go in for their second goal.

The Lady Warriors had difficulty moving the ball out of their own half. Whenever they managed to push it forward, the Lady Marauders quickly regained possession and sent it back into West Branch’s territory. The Lady Warriors were only able to get two shots on goal throughout the night, both of which were saved by Bishop Guilfoyle’s goalkeeper.

After two more goals for Bishop Guilfoyle in the second half, the game ended with a score of 3-0.

The Lady Warriors will lose three seniors this year, Sarah Guglielmi, Kaylea Fenush, and Josie English. Sarah Guglielmi said, “We knew going into the game that Bishop Guilfoyle was going to be tough. It wasn’t the outcome we wanted but everyone put their full effort into the game. I’m so thankful for the memories and long life friends that soccer gave me.”

Eleven of the fourteen players will be returning for next season, including top Scorer Sydney Sankey, along with two other juniors, three sophomores, and five freshmen.
