On November 9th, the Lady Warrior volleyball team played Greensburg Central Catholic in the second round of the state tournament. The Centurions won their District 7 title and the WIPIAL league, and the Warriors came in with a District 6 title and the ICC Championship, but the Warriors fell in three sets in a hard-fought battle.
The final scores of each set were 25-9, 26-24, and 25-23. Junior, Kyla Kephart, had an amazing game while filling the stat sheets with 22 assists and 8 digs. Junior, Brielle Bainey, had 2 aces and 10 digs. Junior, Haley Woodling, had 3 kills, 5 digs, and 2 aces. Junior, Bella Koleno, had 2 aces, 3 kills, and 9 digs. Junior, Skyler Hebel, had 1 ace, and 5 digs. Sophomore, Lexie Mulhollem, had 7 kills. Junior, Madison Korb, had 3 kills. Senior, Makiya Mack, had 8 kills and 1 ace in her final game.
Sarah Guglielmi voiced her opinion on the game. Guglielmi said, “WB got off to a rough start in the first set and lost. The other 2 sets were very close. While watching the last 2 sets, I was on the edge of my seat. We hung in with the other team. I think there would’ve been a different outcome if we had gotten off to a good start.”
Guglielmi’s opinion sums up the Lady Warrior Volleyball season. They are a strong team looking to return to where they left off in the 25-26. With only two seniors graduating, the Ladies return almost everyone on their team.
Libero, Brielle Bainey said she is proud of the season’s outcome and the Warriors’ performance. “I am very proud of this season, after 5 starters graduated last year every person doubted that we would ever be able to fill in their roles, but we did that and maybe more. The team chemistry was just there and it was such an amazing atmosphere to compete with. We don’t have just one superstar that carries us, our whole team–the JV who pushes the varsity every day in practice to the 8-10 varsity players that all contribute in their great way– is what makes our team so special.”
The Warriors finish with a record of 44 and 2. Many milestones were achieved: Kephart achieving 1000 assists, Mack achieving 500 kills, Bainey achieving 500 digs, and Terry Trude achieving his 800th career win.
The Warriors are looking forward to next season and are ready to be in the same position they were this year. Hopefully, the outcome is better and they can get the school’s first PIAA state title.
