Sadie Dickson began teaching at West Branch as an eighth-grade English teacher during the 2021-2022 school year. The following year, she moved up to the high school, where she took on the role of teaching English 9 along with a variety of semester-long classes offered to juniors and seniors.

Dickson graduated from Curwensville Area High School where she played on the high school soccer team. She also was a member of the National Honor Society, participated in drama club, and starred in musicals.  Additionally, she was a member of the band, playing the clarinet and serving as a majorette. She also accompanied her school’s choir on the piano.

After graduating high school, Dickson attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania. During her undergraduate years, she majored in secondary English education and minored in mathematics and educational and school psychology. In graduate school, she majored in English curriculum and instruction. After obtaining her degrees, she moved to Covington, Virginia where she taught at Alleghany High School for five years. After her teaching adventures in Virginia, she moved back home and has been teaching at West Branch for the past four years.

Dickson is an avid reader and read 53 books last year. Her reading goal this year is to read 60 books. She knows that it will be challenging, but she is optimistic about reaching her goal. Although she does not have a favorite book genre, on of her favorite reads has been These Silent Woods. Wanting to share her love of reading with students, she started a book club with her colleague, Jessica Levonick, where they welcome all high school students to explore different genres together.

Dickson teaches a variety of different English classes that she loves, but if she had to choose a favorite, it would be English 9. She has taught it for many years and experimented with different teaching methods, making her feel confident in her master of the content and how best to teach it.

Dickson’s favorite aspect of teaching is the relationships she has built with “her kids”. She stated, “The relationships I have with many of my students are what keeps me coming to school and loving my job. Even if sometimes I get frustrated, something will happen to remind me that teaching is worth it.”
