Prom is an important day, and you don’t want to end up online under the category “prom fails”. Here are a few dos and don’ts to make this big day as perfect as it can be. If you are anxious and worried about prom day, let the worries go away, as this article is the perfect combination of helping you decide how you want your night to go.
DON’T try something new the day before or day of prom. This includes tanning, a new type of crazy hair color or style, or a facial haircut. Lots of people want a dark tan but don’t think ahead to plan out their tan. You never know how your skin will react, so test your tan weeks before, see when you like it best to reapply. You don’t want to be the center of attention at prom because you are a glowing orange carrot.
DO bring some touch-up makeup. If you plan on dancing, your skin may get oily, but that’s nothing a bit of powder can’t fix. Adding lip gloss is always another way to make you shine through the night.
DON’T wait till the night of to put on your new heels. Some heels are made simply just for straight looks, and if they aren’t broken in enough, they can cause you lots of pain. Walk around the house, or anywhere you can, to break them in.
DO take tons of photos. You always want to have lots of memories from a night like this, so don’t think you’re being extra by wanting tons of pictures!
DON’T show too much skin. If you are going to go showy, make sure it’s not too much. First of all, everyone’s at the prom including other parents, teachers, and students, so make sure you’re dress isn’t super revealing. Prom is meant to look classy.
Junior class advisor, Elaina McClelland added a few words from a teacher’s perspective as she stated, “Prom can be a stressful time for everyone (especially the girlies) trying to make sure everything is perfect. From the dress, hair, and make-up, to the pictures, decorations, and everything in between, it’s a lot. But remember to relax, have fun, and focus on making good memories with your friends. That’s the most important thing. Have the time of your life, DANCE, eat good food, and remember to be smart and make good decisions this weekend!”
It’s way easier said than done, but just remember that prom is supposed to be fun! Don’t freak out about your date, your plans, or your outfit. If you plan things early enough, all will go smoothly.
