The PO/WB Boys Soccer Team played their first game on August 26 at 6 p.m. at Phillipsburg-Osceola High School and fell to Bellefonte 3-0 in a conference game. Matthew Thompson played a very good game in goal for the team. The players say he was consistent throughout the game and stopped Bellefonte from scoring multiple goals.
The boys then faced a high-talent Tyrone Boys Soccer Team and lost 3-0. They proceeded to play Somerset and also fell 3-0. They played Westmont Hilltop on September 4, losing 3-0. The PO WB Boys Soccer Team has faced very strong competition to start the season. The players say they know what they need to work on and believe the defense is solid, but the offense still needs a lot of work. They will face more competition the rest of the season and expect to continue improving. There is good talent on the team, and the players are confident that hard work will lead to progress.
Despite a challenging start to the season, the PO WB Boys Soccer Team remains optimistic about their potential. Sophomore Cale McDowell reflected on the team’s early performance, saying, “The start was decent, but we have a lot to work on, like playing harder and winning balls out of the air. We have been good with our defense, and our goalie has also been very good. There are positive things to look at.”
Player Weston George echoed that sentiment, adding, “We have good players and a lot of talent on our team. I am sure we will come around if we continue to work hard, and I even believe that we can make the playoffs.
The players from West Branch are Cale McDowell, Jake Tiracorda, Weston George, Brennan Pase, Cam Henchel, and Carter Crain. We wish the team luck for the rest of the season. The PO WB Boys Soccer Team will play games from August 26 to October 15. The players hope to have a good season and are aiming to see improvement as the season progresses.
