West Branch is offering a trip to the Clearfield County Career & Technology Center (CCCTC) for 10th graders to introduce them to the many trade programs available. This visit gives students the opportunity to explore career paths and decide whether attending CCCTC is right for them.
Some of the programs students can explore include HVAC, electrical, collision repair, diesel mechanics, cosmetology, culinary arts, and information technology. They will also meet teachers, students, and staff, and may even see Bigfoot, the CCCTC mascot.
The trip is completely free. If a student chooses to attend CCCTC in the future, their education will also be free for both the student and their parents. This makes it a great option for students who don’t plan to attend college and for those who do, as the skills taught at CCCTC are valuable in many careers.
Even students who aren’t sure about trade school can benefit from the visit. It’s a chance to explore new possibilities and make an informed decision about their future.
West Branch and CCCTC student Codey Zelenky shared that the trip helped him make up his mind. He was unsure about his future, but the visit introduced him to carpentry, and he realized that’s what he wanted to pursue. His story is just one example of how this experience can be valuable for all 10th graders. This is a great opportunity for students to explore the school, and all students should take advantage of it.
Parents can also benefit from the trip. West Branch guidance counselor Jennifer Porter said, “Parents should know that today’s CTC is not the same as the CTC they might remember when they were in high school. There is an incredibly high demand for quality people in skilled trades and technical careers. The wages and benefits are comparable to those with college degrees.” Overall, the trip helps students make informed decisions about their careers.
