West Branch graduate Kelley Margetas has been chosen for Warrior Watch’s Alumni Watch for the month of October. Margetas (formerly Brewer) serves as Judge on the York County Court of Common Pleas. She was elected as a judge in 2023 and was formally inducted in January of 2024. Before Margetas was a judge, she worked as a prosecutor at the state and local levels of Pennsylvania, specializing in cases involving child abuse and domestic violence.
Margetas was part of West Branch’s graduating class of 1995. She was very involved during her time at the school, serving as the drum major of the marching band and playing both the flute and piccolo. She was also part of the volleyball team during its first few years as a program. After high school, Margetas attended Ursinus College, where she majored in Politics and minored in History and Business Administration. She then graduated from Dickinson School of Law as a member of the Woolsack Honor Society. At the beginning of her career, she worked as a judicial law clerk for Supreme Court member Thomas G. Saylor. Moving into her career as a prosecutor, she worked at the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office and the District Attorney’s Offices in York and Adams County.
Margetas now resides in York County with her daughter, Charitni Mia Margetas. She returned to West Branch as the guest speaker at the 2025 graduation ceremony. She gave the speech in her judge’s robe and focused on being a Warrior with a dream. At the ceremony, Margetas described, “I am here to tell each and every one of you, that what I am the living example of, is that those dreams are attainable. They are within your arm’s reach, with hard work and perseverance.” She included the book Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss in her speech to demonstrate that everyone will go through their own journey and experience different hardships and successes. She wrapped up her speech by explaining that it is how you respond to situations that shape you as a person.
Margetas can be an inspiration to all students at West Branch, showing that if you are passionate about your future and work hard enough for it, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Margetas explains, “ When you’re young, time seems infinite and opportunities limitless. You control the choices you make that will guide your path. Always aim for the stars and never look back. Very few things are cast in stone.”
