To open another successful season, the cross country team featured Ashley Causer, Alexis Condon, Ella Slabon, Michaela Kerlin, and Zaid Carr. For the first meet of the season, they traveled a short distance to Philipsburg-Osceola to compete against the hosts and Cambria Heights on Aug. 28. Nothing new here, as Causer won the first meet with a time of 23:25. Behind her came two other runners on the team, Condon with a time of 29:37, and Slabon finishing in an impressive 13th place with a time of 33:05. With only one male on the team, Carr continues to show up and perform for the Warriors. He finished with a time of 23:06.
To wrap up the month of August, the cross country team participated in the Big Valley Invitational. Once again, Causer ran well, placing 13th out of 62 girls. She has been an outstanding runner throughout her career thus far.
Moving into September, the Warriors hosted a meet on their home course with participating teams Meyersdale, Mount Union, and Moshannon Valley. All three girls’ runners finished in the top 10, each with times in the 20s. For the boys, Carr finished 10th to secure a top-10 spot with an impressive time of 22:59. Finishing out the busy month, the team competed in the Altoona Mountain Lion Classic on Sept. 20. No surprise again, Causer placed 26th out of 128 participants with a time of 22:14. This performance earned her Progress Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sept. 20.
In October, the girls’ team traveled to Southern Huntingdon to face Moshannon Valley and North Star, coming out with wins against both teams. The following week, on Oct. 8, they traveled south again to defeat Northern Bedford and host Juniata Valley. Opening postseason competition at the Inter-County Conference Meet, Carr displayed solid effort with a 26th-place finish and a time of 20:49. For the girls, Kerlin and Condon finished with times in the mid-20s. To top it all off, Causer set a new personal record with a time of 21:30, placing fifth and carrying momentum into districts. Carr finished with a 21:04, while Condon and Kerlin competed strongly with times in the mid-20s. Causer had a phenomenal performance but narrowly missed qualifying for states. She finished 12th, cutting her personal record by three seconds.
The Cross Country team gave their full effort throughout the 2025 season, with only a small number of athletes competing. Sophomore runner Condon spoke of her experience from this season: “It was a super fun season and even though we didn’t have a full team and I wouldn’t change anything.”
