Students seeking faith-based opportunities have several options in Central Pennsylvania. Expressing and exploring personal faith can be challenging for children due to limited knowledge of different religions and beliefs, uncertainty about where to begin, or the influence of peers. Participating in organized faith groups provides opportunities for guidance and learning.

Students at West Branch have the option to join the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), led by teacher David Learish. The FCA provides meetings and activities where students can learn about the Christian faith. The program includes sport-based events within the school and hosts a “Meet You at the Pole” event, during which staff, students, and community members pray for the school.

For students seeking an out-of-school option, local youth groups offer opportunities to participate in worship singing, games, Bible study, and discussions about weekly experiences. This youth group is held at Lanse Evangelical Free Church. It is led by Holly Crumrine, Cody Crumrine, DJ Clark, Bobbi Kyler, and Joan Page. You can contact Holly Crumrine at (814) 590-4455 and Cody Crumrine at (724) 787-8357. The group gathers from 7-9 p.m. The leaders teach about faith and its applications for daily life and prioritize getting to know participants. Other student contacts include Kyla, Coby, and Payton Kephart, Bella Koleno, Tyler Chilcote, Gracie Eyerly, and David Kindelberger. The youth group offers another avenue for exploring faith.

These options provide ways for students to begin their faith journey. From the education gained about Christ to the welcoming approach of group leaders, students can engage with their community while learning about faith. Ken Zitsch, pastor at St. John’s Lutheran Church, says, “Joining a faith-related group is the best option for young kids looking to get their journey started.” Everyone involved is learning and seeking the same faith.
