On Tuesday, Sept. 15, the West Branch Warrior volleyball team hosted Moshannon Valley, taking home the win in three sets.
Moshannon Valley started the game with serve, and after the Damsels took a 2-0 lead, Kayli Thompson responded, and recorded a kill for West Branch. Emily Shingledecker was the first to serve for the Warriors, and had a five-point service run to put West Branch on top 6-2. After some errors from West Branch, the Damsels started to close the gap in the score, and trailed behind West Branch, with a score of 10-9. A service error by Moshannon Valley put the Warriors ahead 22-17, and with two kills from Lexie Mulhollem, the score became 24-18. With a Moshannon Valley hitting error, the Warriors pulled through with a 25-18 win.
The Warriors dominated throughout the second set. West Branch started with the serve, but Moshannon Valley quickly got the point back after a West Branch hitting error. A kill by Thompson, and a service run from Mulhollem kept the Warriors on top, with a score of 7-2. The Warriors never let up, and after a four-point service run by Lindsey Bainey, the score improved to 13-3. With a free-ball on the line by Alexis Bush, and a three-point service run by Kaitlyn Bucha brought the score to 18-6. A kill by Mulhollem made the score 23-8, and after a two-point service run also by Mulhollem, the Warriors came out on top, with a second set score of 25-8.
Moshannon Valley started with serve for the third set, but West Branch quickly responded, and got the point back. After a kill from the Damsels, the score improved to 4-4. After some back-and-forth, Bush had a three-point service run to give West Branch the lead. After a couple rallies and a three-point service run by Addy Danko, the Warriors started to pull through, with a score of 14-8. A kill by Mulhollem and two strong serves bumped the score up to 18-11, but after a four-point service run from Moshannon Valley, the Damsels were yet again trailing behind West Branch with a score of 18-15. After a long rally, Kaitlyn Bucha secured a kill, to make the score 24-17, and after a Moshannon Valley free-ball error, West Branch won the third set 25-18, with a three set sweep.
