Bellwood-Antis– The Lady Warrior Volleyball team used a hot start to earn a 3-0 sweep of rival Bellwood-Antis Thursday night, winning 25-22, 25-18, and 25-14.
“We talk all the time about having the mental edge,” Head Coach Terry Trude said. “If we continuously communicate with each other, play with heart and keep a ton of energy, our physical play will follow suit.”
It was clear to all that the Lady Warriors had the “Mental Edge” all night long. As a collective group the Warriors played with fire and had all of the momentum, but the seniors really stepped up into the leadership role and kept the team positive when it seemed as though the Lady Blue Devils were beginning to crawl back.
“Our Seniors really stepped up big time tonight. They all passed the ball extremely well and did a nice job of keeping everyone motivated,” Trude added.
Senior Liz Moore was around the ball all night long, leading the team with 12 digs. Moore and Sophomore Emma Morlock each had five aces, and Moore tallied a total of six kills. Junior Taylor Kalke led the team with 7 kills.
“It was our goal to beat them in three sets, but we knew that it would not be easy,” Taylor Kalke added. “They are a very good team, and we knew that we would have to play as hard as we could all night long. We were able to strategize with what we knew about their players Wednesday at practice, so we felt very confident going into the game. We couldn’t be happier with how the result turned out. It was a big win for us.”
The Lady Warriors are back in action Monday night as they travel to Central Mountain.
