Male Athletes of the Week: Billy Bumbarger and Landon Bainey

Senior Billy Bumbarger and sophomore Landon Bainey have been selected as Warrior Watch’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week of 2/19/22. Both Warriors had a successful weekend in Altoona where they competed in the PIAA District VI AA championships. Billy wrestled at 215 pound, where he started as the 9th seed. He received a bye in the round of 32 and then won his next match, upsetting the 8th seed by a 3-0 decision. Billy ended up falling to the first seed, later crowned champion, in a close match ending in a 2-4 decision. Billy ultimately ended up finishing 6th, giving him his first appearance in the PIAA Southwest Regionals Tournament. 

Landon wrestled at 113 pounds where he started as the 2nd seed. He went on to pin 3 out of his 4 opponents within time of 0:17, 1:31, and 1:37. He went on to face Bald Eagle Area’s Lucas Fye, the 1st seed, in the championship. Landon won the match by a 7-5 decision and won his 2nd District VI AA Championship. He will also advance to the PIAA Southwest Regionals tournament for the second time in his high school career.
