The West Branch Baseball team got off to a sluggish start on Monday against the visiting Blue Pirates. After a three-error first inning, the Warriors put it behind them and pulled out a 7-2 victory. Senior Owen Graham got the start and didn’t disappoint. Graham threw a complete game striking out 9 hitters and giving up 0 earned runs. Only giving up 3 hits and 2 walks, he retired the last 7 batters in a row, to give the team their third win this season and improve his pitching record to 1-1 .
The Warriors recorded only 4 total hits on the offensive side, two of which came from sophomore, Luke Liptak. Good discipline comes a long way in baseball, as 9 walks were given up by the Blue Pirates to help West Branch get the win.
Sophomore Zach McGonigal says, “The team played pretty well overall. We were able to be successful at the plate even though we didn’t have many hits. Owen pounded the strike zone all night and got the complete game which was awesome.”
The Warriors improved their overall record to 3-1 and 2-1 in the ICC. They will host the visiting Juniata Valley Hornets on 4/5/22.
