With so many varieties of the Grinch movies, how can anyone pick their favorite one to watch for the holidays? During the holiday, everyone is trying to find the best Christmas movies to watch. But with the Grinch, you can’t go wrong with any of them. Whether green puppets, furry costumes, or CGI creations, the Grinch has been brought to life in live-action and animated formats, each capturing a different facet of his grumpy charm. However, the Grinch doesn’t stop there. It can be seen everywhere during the Christmas season. It is in flavored drinks and foods, books, decorations, clothing, and the list goes on and on.

In my opinion, out of all the Grinch movies, both animated and live-action, these are my favorite. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (live-action) with Jim Carrey. The other is Dr Seuss’, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (animation). If I had to pick a favorite, I don’t think I could because I love them both the same. They have different aspects that I have attachments to.

The first-ever Grinch was the version Dr. Seuss wrote. It is called How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This movie holds a special place in my heart as it was the first one I experienced, setting the narrative tone for all the Grinch films that came later. There’s a distinct emotional connection I feel as if it has a special hold on me. The movie is also very funny and heartwarming to watch, with the Grinch finding how to love Christmas. I feel that if we didn’t have this original film, the others wouldn’t be as awesome. How the Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carrey is like my go-to because it never gets old, thanks to Jim Carrey’s amazing acting skills. It’s just one of those films I can watch over and over again without ever getting bored. Jim Carrey is such a talented, comedic actor. In addition, the music score in this version has me wanting to listen to the soundtrack throughout the holiday and puts me in the Christmas spirit.

I asked others what their preferred version of the Grinch was, aiming to see if their movie preferences aligned with mine. Sydney Sankey, a fellow 10th grader, declared, “The live-action Grinch with Jim Carrey is my favorite rendition because it’s the most hysterical and chaotic.” Skylar Hartshorne, a student from West Branch, agreed, saying, “If I had to choose, I’d go with the live-action one because of Jim Carrey.” Dawn Fetterolf, a parent from West Branch, held a different view, favoring the 1966 version, explaining, “My favorite Grinch movie is the 1966 version because I love where the story originated from.”
