The Warrior basketball team played the Vikings of Glendale on Tuesday, February 4th at home. The Warriors entered the game with an impressive 11-0 record in both the Moshannon Valley and the Inter-County Conference North leagues. Winning this game would mean that they would go undefeated in both leagues, and this is something that has never been done before.
The game started very slow, as there was a defensive showdown for the first 3 minutes of the game, with neither team scoring any points. Lukas Colton started the scoring for the Warriors with a 3 from the top of the key, assisted by Joel Evans with a kickout pass. The first quarter was a low-scoring affair and was 14-10 in favor of the Warriors.
In the second quarter, the warriors started to pick up some speed, this was led by many fast break layups from Easton Emigh. Evans dominated the boards and helped with the speed this quarter, and he ended the night with 14 rebounds. The Warriors went into the half up 10, with the score being 32-22
After the half, the Warriors were slowed up by Glendale’s defense and shooting skills. The third quarter was played in back-and-forth action, and the score at the end was 47-46. The Vikings stayed hot in the fourth quarter, going up 5 with 5:30 to play. This was when the mood in the gym changed, and this was because of a couple of three-pointers by Owen Koleno and Lukas Colton, and a huge defensive stand from the Warriors. The Warriors went on top and stayed there for the rest of the game, and the final score was 68-65. Emigh led the way with 20 points, with Koleno and Evans both having 18.
West Branch basketball player Dylan McGonigal said, ”The Warriors seemed to have faced a little bit of a struggle but they still managed to play their game and come out with a win”.
