As the winter season comes to an end, the spring weather is here, which means spring release movies are finally here. There are many releases from care-free movies, such as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, to action-packed movies like The Mandalorian and Grogu. Let’s take a look at the exciting releases to come.
The first exciting release on April 1st is “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie”. This is a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie that came out in 2023. It stars many recurring actors such as Chris Pratt as Mario, Anna Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, and Jack Black as Bowser. There are some new characters like Yoshi, who’s played by Donald Glover, and Rosalina, who’s played by Brie Larson. The film is about Mario and his brother Luigi, who travel to space, where they embark on a journey far from Mushroom Kingdom. This film is based on the 2007 Wii game “Super Mario Galaxy,” so it will be very nostalgic for viewers who played the Wii. It’s also a really good expansion of the Mario Universe and isn’t going to be repetitive from the first movie.
Another film that’s being released is “Michael”, which comes out on April 24th. It stars Michael Jackson’s nephew, Jaffar Jackson, who plays Michael Jackson. Some other cast members include Kat Graham as Diana Ross and Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson. This film is a biopic based on Michael Jackson’s career and the journey he went through to become a superstar. This film is a good opportunity to understand and appreciate the road Michael Jackson took to become the famous performer that he was.
Lastly, another highly anticipated movie of the spring is “Mandalorian and Grogu”, which comes out May 22nd. It stars Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian, Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hut, and Sigourney Weaver as Ward. It follows the events of the TV series, The Mandalorian, as Din Djarin and Grogu take jobs for the New Republic. This is the first movie from Star Wars since “The Rise of Skywalker,” which was released in 2019, so this is very exciting for Star Wars fans.
Senior Jonah Porter states his opinions on these films, “I was surprised to hear about the Mario Galaxy movie, and I’m definitely excited for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu”. I just hope Disney doesn’t mess it up. I can’t say I’m a Michael Jackson fan, though.”
There are plenty of exciting movie releases hitting theaters this spring 2026, and you can catch them close to home. For a more nostalgic experience, local spots like the Rowland Theatre and the Ritz Theater offer charm and convenience without a long drive. If you prefer a more modern moviegoing experience, theaters like the College 9 Theatre and the AMC CLASSIC Altoona 12 feature amenities like reclining seats and multiple screens, giving you more options and added comfort.
