The Lady Warriors celebrate as they are announced tournament champions.

On Saturday, October 15th, the Junior Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Elk Country for a tournament. With only one loss all day, the Lady Warriors took first place.

Their first game, against Dubois Central Catholic, was not until 10:10 a.m., so they got a little bit of a later start. In the first set, they struggled a little bit. However, once the girls warmed up, they got together to win that set and the next one. They played another game right after that against Ridgeway and won both sets. The schedule was very unlucky for the Warriors as they had to play another game right after against Saint Marys. However, their back-to-back games did not stop them because West Branch won both sets again to finish pool play.

Since there was a team that dropped out last minute, the Warriors played an exhibition match– a game that does not impact team rank– against the host team, ECC. In the first set, the Warriors continued their winning streak and won. In the second set, however, Elk County defeated them in a close game. When it was time to seed the teams, the Warriors’ outstanding record put them in the first place and gave them a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

The first team West Branch opposed in playoffs was Dubois Central Catholic, the team they played against in their first game. The Lady Warriors played a solid game against them and won. The next team that the Lady Warriors faced was Brookville. The girls knew the match would be demanding, especially since it was a one-set game to 30 points. The game was very close, with several momentum changes, but in the end, the Warriors got the win to advance to the finals.

The final game was against Saint Marys, which the Warriors had also previously defeated. The Lady Warriors went into the championship game eager to win, so they battled exceptionally hard to get it. The Warriors ultimately came out on top and were the champions!

The Warriors’ next game is on Tuesday, October 18th, when they face off against Moshannon Valley away.
