West Branch Life Skills program welcomes back the Greenhouse project to fundraise for their class and create the chance for students to purchase crops and flowers.
Students Denver Mcguire, Susan Ridgley, Malcolm Kephart, Nicholas Magure, Whitney Evans, Braxton Marks, and Gavin Royer began planting in the new greenhouse for the annual sale held in the high school. Every year, students get to choose from various crops and flowers grown by the students from the program.
The profits go toward the Life Skills program, allowing them to bring the project back the following year, fund their class trips, and support their projects throughout the year. There will be seven available crops: Tomato, Pepper, Cucumber, Squash, Zucchini, Pumpkin, and Watermelon, along with a selection of flowers. The food plants and flowers will be ready to cultivate in gardens at the end of May. Students can purchase plants in the West Branch courtyard from May 24th to May 26th.
The event started with Nick Ammerman, a former Eagle Scout and alumnus of West Branch. Nick built the first greenhouse as a project. In the summer of 2022, West Branch was fortunate enough to construct a new and improved greenhouse ready to be used.
Senior Laurent Coudriet says, “I am excited for this year’s sale. I always go for the flowers first.” West Branch Life Skills teacher, Mrs. Erin Johnson, with the help of Tina Kolesar, Alice King, Erica Wood, and Sue Zimmerman, is happy to see the progress made and cannot wait for the sale. Luckily, this opportunity will return for the 2023-2024 school year!
The community at West Branch and the students in the Life Skills program are excited for everyone to see their hard work and progress at the WB 2023 Greenhouse sale. If you can, head to the West Branch Courtyard from May 24th to May 26th and purchase a plant to support the Life Skills program!
