A customer compares the size of the new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max at the Apple Store in Singapore September 21, 2018.

After the announcement of the three new iPhones on September 12, the new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are now available for purchase. The iPhone XR, which could be considered inexpensive compared to the XS and XS Max, is set to be obtainable on October 26th with pre-order starting October 19th at 12:01 am PT. With all this buzz about the new devices, people are wondering what the big difference is between the X and XS is and if the XS Max is really worth the price point. Before we dive into that, it’s time to give farewell speech for some of our favorite friends throughout the years and welcome some new ones.

Following the extinction of the headphone jack with the iPhone 7, the home button now has traveled the same road with the release of the XS, XS Max, and XR. Apple is now no longer supplying customers with the handy dongle when they purchase their new iPhone. Besides the funeral being held for those of the past, you can say goodbye to that $70 OtterBox you purchased for your iPhone X because the camera bulge is a little bigger on the iPhone XS. Like the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X, wireless charging comes with the new additions as well. Remember the iPhone 5C that was released years ago? The colors have made a comeback with the iPhone XR, which will be sporting the owner’s choice of white, black, blue, yellow, coral, or red. Gold has also been added as a color option for the iPhone XS and XS Max.

In all honesty, there’s not a huge difference between the iPhone X and XS. The iPhone XS boasts the new A12 chip with next generation Neural Engine while the iPhone X runs on the A11 which basically means the iPhone XS runs faster. The iPhone XS now provides the buyer with the option of 512GB of storage. Besides those upgrades, the XS is slightly more waterproof than its predecessor. Overall, if you own an iPhone 6 and older, it might be worth the upgrade.

The iPhone XS Max is the larger version of the iPhone XS. Because of its 6.5” screen, it allows for a larger resolution.  Of course with increase of size, there’s an increase in weight which isn’t really all that much in the end. Like the iPhone XS, it also runs on the A12 chip. The biggest thing with the iPhone XS is not only the dimensions, but also the price point which can hit upwards of $1,449.00 with the 64GB model being $1,099.00. Should you buy this phone? Honestly, it all depends on your personal budget. If you own a Samsung, I do highly recommend trading it in and buying any model iPhone from the 6s to the XS Max.

In the end, the new iPhones are definitely something for the sheep of Apple to get excited about. If you need a new iPhone or are switching over from Samsung, definitely go after the new iPhones. If you already have a newer model, just wait a year or so for Apple to release the next generation of iPhones where maybe some new features will find their way to the market and some old ones will no longer be there.
