The Lady Warrior Volleyball team traveled to Mifflin County High School to take on the Lady Chargers of Mount Calvary Christian. The Warriors began slowly, sliding down 21-13 in the first set. But the resilient Lady Warriors retaliated, with Kyla Kephart and Katrina Cowder getting 5 service points in a row, taking the first set 26-24.

The Lady Chargers came back in set 2, as the Chargers and Warriors were locked in at 8-8. The Lady Chargers went on a 5-0 run to make the score 13-8. Mount Calvary Christian would take set two, 25-22.

The third set was back and forth, but Katrina Cowder had a kill followed by 3 straight service points. Marley Croyle had 2 kills in the run. The Lady Warriors were up  17-11, but the Lady Chargers did not roll over. Mount Calvary clawed back to make the score 23-21 West Branch. A kill from Croyle for West Branch put them in a position to take set 3. A serve from Cowder put a close to set 3, putting West Branch up 2-1.

The Lady Warriors started the 4th set on fire with a sideout and four service points from Brielle Bainey. However, the Chargers recovered, setting the score to 8-8. Kills by Isabella Koleno, Brooklyn Myers, and Katrina Cowder bumped the Warriors’ lead to 6, going up 17-11. There was no looking back from the Lady Warriors. The game was out of reach from the Chargers the rest of the way, with the Lady Warriors punching their ticket to the state championship game.

When asked how she felt about getting back to the state championship, junior Makiya Mack stated, “I knew from the last point of the state championship last year that we would be back here again and better than ever.”

The West Branch Lady Warrior Volleyball team is back in action for the state championship this Saturday, November 18, to take on the Crusaders of Elk County Catholic.
