Track and Field Turns a Rough Week into Victory

The West Branch Track and Field Team overcomes a rough start to their week with a win against Bellwood.

On Monday, April 24th, the West Branch Track and Field team traveled to Bald Eagle, where they faced a tough loss. The boys’ team lost 50-9, and the girls’ team fell 24-125. Although the team lost, some team members still had their successes! 

To start, the boys’ 4x800m relay team pulled out a win with a time of 8:53. This team included Jacob Alexander, John Stavola, Sage Carr, and Noah Ryder. Another successful student, Landen Pase, was first in the boys’ 200-meter race with a time of 26.30 seconds. Then a relay runner, Sage Carr, was successful in the boys’ 400-meter race as he got first place with a time of 53.03 seconds. John Stavola also won first place in the boys’ 800-meter race with a time of 2:12:48. Noah Ryder found himself in the first place as out on top in the boys’ 1600 meters with a time of 4:57:10. 

Despite the loss, West Branch again found another one of their boys’ relay race teams successful as Sage Carr, John Stavola, Joel Evans, and Noah Ryder won the boys’ 4x400m relay with a time of 3:47:37. The girls’ team came close to success in the 300m hurdles as Erika Alexander got second place, and triumphed with Emily Parks earning third place in the 100m Hurdles.

Then on Thursday, April 27th, the Track and Field team traveled to Bellwood, where they competed against Bellwood and Williamsburg. The boys fell to Bellwood with a score of 47-103 but won against Williamsburg with a score of 112-30. The girls also got defeated by Bellwood with a score of 16-133 but won against Williamsburg with a score of 104-19.

The boys’ 4×800-meter relay race team pulled out another win with a time of 9:28:07. A relay team member, Noah Ryder, was able to find success on his own by coming in first in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:06:07. Sage Carr and John Stavola also found themselves on top in the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run. Carr had a time of 52.60 seconds, and Stavola had a time of 2:30:01. It was an exciting meet for the boys’ 4x 400 relay race team as they broke a record with a time of 3:36:95! This team includes Sage Carr, John Stavola, Joel Evans, and Noah Ryder. 

The 4×100-meter relay team, which included Craig Fluck, Wyatt Schwiderske, Azadio Vargas, and Landen Pase, also won with a time of 48.70 seconds. Jacob Alexander got first in the 300 hurdles, and Kevin Hurley won in the 3200-meter run. Alexander had a time of 47.30 seconds, and Hurley had a time of 13:0:31. In Shot Put, Azadio Vargas found himself in the first place, and Jacob Alexander came out on top in the High Jump category. Another record was broken by Robert Walker, with a Pole Vault height of 10’0”!

On the girls’ team, Emily Parks got first place in the 110 hurdles with a time of 18.10 seconds and won again in the Long Jump with a distance of 13’11”. Marley Croyle also took many wins as she got first place in the Triple Jump, Javelin, and Shot Put. Erika Alexander also gained a few triumphs in the Pole Vault and the 300 hurdles with a time of 57.80 seconds. The girls 4×400-meter team also brought home a win, as group members Petriskey, Yingling, Hebel, and Walker had a successful time of 5:15:41. The girls had another success as Emma Petrisky won the 400-meter dash and the 800-meter dash. 

A team member, Emily Parks, says, “Although we struggled on Monday I’m glad we were able to overcome it and get a win on Thursday.” Congratulations to the record-breakers, and good luck with the rest of your season!
