Every year, the church across the street from West Branch does a Halloween Trunk or Treat. Trunk or Treat is an event where grades six and under can go to the Gethsemane Church parking lot to Trick or Treat without parents worrying about their children’s safety. This event is free for the community, but they ask participants to provide canned food. The food will be given to the local food bank to help families in need.
At this Trunk or Treat, there are many different participants, including families, athletic groups, boosters, and even the local fire departments. These people will be handing out candy and treats to the kids. This event will have at least 25 different groups, with their trunks decorated with different themes.
As the highly-anticipated annual trunk decorating event draws near, attendees can look forward to a delightful surprise. This year’s themes will feature trunks adorned by the football team, cheerleaders, baseball team, girls’ soccer team, Cen-Clear, and the Angel Project. Notably, the girls’ soccer team has a “Toy Story” theme, while the Angel Project will engage visitors with a “VeggieTales” theme. These imaginative choices offer a glimpse into the creative displays that attendees can expect at the event.
There will also be three different fire departments there, including Winburne, Morrisdale, and Grassflat. Pastor Julia Piper is excited about this year’s event, “Come to celebrate Jesus! The sweetest name we know. Trunk or Treat at Gethsemane allows us to provide a safe place for our community and families to have an evening of fun”. The church also has a canned food drive and this year they are starting something new with a coat drive.
At this year’s Trunk or Treat event, there will also be a coat drive. This initiative is dedicated to helping children in need by collecting not only coats but also hats and gloves. It’s not just about donating; if you find yourself in need of warmth this winter, you’re welcome to take a coat for yourself.
