The West Branch Warrior Band performs its Jimmy Eat World-inspired show at 6:30 p.m. before home games and during halftime at away games.
This year’s show theme is inspired by Jimmy Eat World and its album “Bleed American.” The show features three songs from the album: “The Middle,” “Hear You Me,” and “Sweetness.” “The Middle” opens the show, followed by “Hear You Me,” and “Sweetness” closes the performance.
When asked about the concept behind the show and what made these specific songs stand out, band director Lance Jones said, “So I was initially interested in the idea that Jimmy Eat World’s album was turning 25 this year. Looking further into the tracklist it became clear that there were three singles from this particular album that are still very recognizable and relevant. These are the three songs that became our show. Not only are there a lot of great music concepts for the band to learn and execute, but I am really happy with the balance that the tracks create.” He also stated, “There is a lot of depth in this rock show and I am really proud of how the Warrior Band is bringing it to life every week!”
The show also includes a trumpet solo in the second song, “Hear You Me.” Members of the trumpet section take turns performing the solo each week. The show also features quick drum major switch-offs between drum major Emily Shingledecker and assistant drum major Hannah White. The second song, “Hear You Me,” also features a band-front display with ribbons and balloons honoring family members of band members who have passed away.
