Directed by Joel Crawford, the new DreamWorks movie Puss in Boots: The Last Wish came to theaters on December 21st, 2022. The 2022 production is an hour and 40 minutes long and is in the Adventure/Comedy genre. The film covers the story of Puss in Boots– the infamous orange cat from Shrek 2— discovering that his passion for adventure has taken its toll and has burnt through eight of his nine lives. Puss sets out on an epic adventure to find the magical star, Wish, and restore his nine lives. While on his journey, Puss in Boots encounters new and old friends and enemies.
On January 7th, 2023, some friends and I went to the Ritz Theater in Clearfield, PA, to watch Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. I would give the movie and experience five out of five stars. Heading into the theater, I had low expectations for the film. However, it truly surprised me. This movie is very well done and has some cool special effects in the dark forest scenes, making it one of my favorite parts.
The unique part of this movie is the heartfelt message of the importance of holding love & gratitude for what we already have in this life. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is not just for children, as it has humor for everyone– including adults. I will admit, while it is rated PG, it better fits PG-7 because there are several censored curse words and some scenes that include death. Although, I loved this movie and would recommend watching it if you have the chance.
For another five-star review of the movie, Jacques De Villiers expressed: “This film is fantastic in every way. The animation is beautiful, the comedy is spectacular and the movie is scary, funny, sad, and exciting at the same time. Puss in boots and kitty softpaws have so much history on the screen that it holds the entire adventure together. All the characters are so fun and unique that every action feels real to the fantasy story.”
