The Warriors Fall to the Cougars

The Warriors’ five-game win streak comes to an end.

On Friday, October 27th, the Warriors traveled to North Star to take on the Cougars. North Star got the ball first, leading them to a score two plays later. The Warriors did not leave this score unanswered and evened the score at 7-7 with a rushing touchdown from Tyler Biggans topped off with a PAT from Emma Bucha. This PAT also awarded Emma as the All-Time single-season PAT record holder. She finished with 32 PATs after this game. On the Cougars’ next drive, they drove down the field and took back the lead at 14 to 7. From there, the Cougars went on a scoring frenzy. This continued throughout the first quarter and into the second. The Warriors were unable to keep up with their offense. At the end of the second quarter, the Warriors went into the locker room trailing 49-7 at the half.

The Warriors came out of half firing on all cylinders after a sluggish first half. On the first play from scrimmage, Tyler Biggans threw an outstanding pass to Easton Emigh. This was topped off with a 1-yard rushing touchdown for Tyler Biggans, which brought the score to 14-49 after a PAT from Emma Bucha. This intensity didn’t stop there, as the Warriors continued the half leaving the field with 28 unanswered points. These points consisted of a rushing touchdown from Coby Kephart, and two passing touchdowns from Connor Danko, one connected with Wyatt Schwiderske and the other to Brayden Williamson. The Warriors, however, could not bring the game back, ending with a score of 35-49. This brought the Warriors’ winning streak to an end, unfortunately. West Branch ended the regular season with a 5-5 record. They will travel to Cambria Heights for the first round of district playoffs this Friday night. Wyatt Schwiderske had some words after the loss. “I think it keeps us humble. We kinda got away from ourselves this past game and we just need to get back to playing Warrior football to continue our playoff run”. Azadio Vargas stated, “I think this game will help us. Coming off of a 5-game winning streak it’s hard to stay hungry and eager to win but I’m hoping the loss against North Star will push us to be the best, and hungriest team West Branch has ever seen.”
