This season, West Branch has returned seven letter winners to the varsity roster. These individuals include Landon Bainey, Hunter Schnarrs, Bryce English, Jake Mann, Reed Yingling, Drake Taylor, and Carter Yingling. Also sporting the singlet are Reed Jordan, Natalie Yingling, Holly Schnarrs, and Payton McCloskey.
Over the offseason, State Runner-Up and returning letter winner Landon Bainey broke his leg, but since has made a recovery and is ready to wrestle. “I’m very excited to come back into action after having a broken leg for three months. I’m ready to dominate,” Bainey stated. On Saturday, December 2nd, he did just that. Bainey recorded two victories via pin and one by tech fall. Bainey placed first at 127 pounds in his first tournament back whilst also receiving the “Outstanding Wrestler” award of the tournament.
Hunter Schnarrs is also expected to have a big season this year. After finishing 22-19 last season, Schnarrs had a late-season push to qualify for regionals. But this season, he has his sights set on a state tournament appearance. At the Inter-County Conference Kickoff Tournament, Hunter placed 3rd at 145 pounds.
Returning letter winner Jake Mann is ready to perform for the Warriors, as he is expected to play a bigger role this year. The Warrior wrestling squad has a whopping nine sophomores, with no freshmen or juniors. So, with a year of experience on his resume, the sophomore put on a show, coming in 4th place for the 127-pound weight class.
With only eleven wrestlers on the entire roster, it will be difficult for the Warrior wrestlers to win many dual meets, having to forfeit at least two weight classes, but these Warriors are a resilient group and will fight for every point.
The Warrior wrestlers will be back in action on Tuesday, December 12, traveling to Curwensville to take on the Golden Tide.
