Basketball requires a lot of skill: players have to dribble, pass, and shoot all while defending against another team. It’s a tricky game. Now, imagine doing all that while riding a stubborn mule.

West Branch School District looks to bring back donkey basketball as an exciting way to involve every age student and community in a fun activity. The elementary school staff is hosting the event to raise money for the elementary PBS program. Faculty and staff members playing are Mark Mitchell, Casey Goodrow, Adam Carr, Ashley Wessel, Justin Koleno, Robin Anderson, Mandy Harris, Danny Clark, Kelley Hubler, Becky Lutchko, Chad Koleno, Jesse Husted, Elena McClelland, and Mark Norris.

The game is on March 31st and is an all-age event. Doors open at 6:30 pm as the game will start at 7:30 pm. The game will be played in the old gym. Advance tickets are $9.00 per person or if you’re a last-minute person, tickets at the door are $13.00. All benefits go to the West Branch Elementary PBS Tier 1. There will be delicious snacks, free donkey rides, photo ops, and competitive fun! There will also be amazing vendors such as Luke’s Dirty Dogs hot dog stand and Sunset Slush Italian Ice! The game lineup will start with Juniors Vs. Seniors in the first half, then during halftime it will be kids’ fun as there will be games and donkey rides. To end the fun, the second half will be Staff Vs. Students. You won’t want to miss this fun-filled night!

Elementary staff member and event organizer, Chad Koleno explains how exciting it is for everyone in the district to bring back this fun-filled experience, “I have enjoyed Donkey Basketball in the past, now being part of a group setting it up for the community and hearing all the excitement makes me smile.”

Assistant Principal, Mr. Jesse Husted also stated, “Donkey Basketball was a staple at West Branch for many years, so I am glad it is making a comeback. I was lucky enough to participate in the event during my junior and senior year, and it is most certainly a core memory that I will never forget. Whether you are participating or simply in attendance, it will be an evening filled with laughter, positivity, and perhaps some strange smells. Don’t miss the fun – make sure you attend Donkey Basketball 2025!”

So mark your calendars and come watch the craziest show on Earth!
