As we move past Week 2, we learn more about players and their roles on their teams’ rosters. Injuries continue to impact managers’ rosters, potentially giving backups larger opportunities.
Christian McCaffrey’s injury has caused widespread panic across the NFL. The 49ers’ backup, Jordan Mason, has stepped into the starting role during McCaffrey’s absence, taking full advantage of the opportunity. He has rushed for 100 yards and scored a touchdown in both games, solidifying himself as the 49ers’ starting running back while McCaffrey is out. Seahawks’ running back Kenneth Walker was also out last week, and his backup, Zach Charbonnet, put up solid numbers with a touchdown and six receptions. These two players would be good pickups if they are not already on a team.
Injuries have been a major issue early in the season. Wide receiver Cooper Kupp had an outstanding Week 1, but injured his ankle in Week 2 and will be out for a few weeks. First-round pick A.J. Brown is also sidelined for multiple weeks with a hamstring injury. To fill these gaps, wide receiver Darnell Mooney, who scored his first touchdown for his new team last week, could be a strong replacement. The Falcons’ offense is expected to improve as the season progresses, and Mooney will likely play a significant role. Another receiver to consider picking up is Jerry Jeudy, who has posted solid numbers to start the season.
Some players are off to a slow start, particularly at the tight end position. Sam Laporta, the first tight end drafted, is ranked 17th for his position with only six receptions over two weeks. Star tight end Travis Kelce has also started slowly, with just four receptions and 39 yards. Many top-ranked tight ends are struggling, but one tight end to pick up is Hunter Henry, who had a strong Week 2 with 18 points.
Week 2 continues to shuffle managers’ rosters and lineups. Good luck in Week 3!
