The Ultimate Warrior Wrestling Tournament will occur on Friday, January 27th, and Saturday the 28th, at West Branch. On January 27th, it will begin at 11:00 a.m., and on January 28th, at 9:00 a.m. The wrestling team has hosted the Ultimate Warrior Wrestling tournament for five years, so this will be their sixth annual tournament. It has become one of Pennsylvania’s top five wrestling tournaments, with 42 teams competing.

The first day of the tournament will consist of preliminary rounds and quarter-finals. The tournament’s second day will include consolation rounds, semi-finals, and finals. It will also feature a mini JV tournament on the second day.

Head coach, Jason Bainey, says, “Coach Williamson and I had a vision 7 years ago to build it into one of the premier tournaments in the state and for our WB wrestlers to be able to compete in such a prestige tournament in their gym and in front of their own fans is something our entire school district, booster club, and community should be proud of.”

The Ultimate Warrior Wrestling tournament is essential for the wrestling team as it is their only fundraiser during the season. Not only does it raise money for them, but it also prepares them for wrestling tournaments that happen during the postseason. The opportunity for extra training in the event means a lot to the team because they can see more challenging competitors they could encounter in the postseason.

Junior Landon Bainey says, “the tournament means a lot to me because several state-ranked kids I will see in the postseason will be there, and I get an early feel on them. It’s tough competition right at home.”

Make sure to come out and support the varsity wrestling team. It will be $20 for adults and $10 for students each day to get into the tournament. There will also be an option of $30 admission for Friday and Saturday. If you see a wrestler in the hallway, wish them good luck!
